The EP Comic Con transformed the El Paso Convention Center into fanboy heaven over the September 10th weekend. It was the con’s second yearand the convention turned it up a notch with Star wars actors Peter Mayhew, who plays Chewbacca and Billy Dee Williams, who plays Lando Calrissian as special guests. They signed autographs, for a fee, and took part in question and answer sessions.

The turnout was really good - who knew that El Paso harbored so many comic book anime and pop culture enthusiasts? The con had many attendees in costume and some fanboys were drooling over the well endowed women in skimpy costumes. There were also many vendors selling all kinds of memorabilia and comic art, but the main purpose of a comic convention is, well, comic books.

The con had a handful of comic book vendors but each of them offered a very respectable quantity and selection with good prices. Even desirable and hard to find vintage comics were being sold at half price. The con also provided local comic book artists an opportunity to spread the word on their creations.

Overall, EPCon looked like a success, despite the cancellation of all the local bands. You could tell people were enjoying themselves as they snatched up Star Wars and new Thundercats figures along with handfuls of vintage comics.
