The Electric Panther, a local rock and roll group hailing from Juarez, rocked the faces of many fans and innocent bystanders when they were active in the music scene a couple years back.
The group has decided to release two songs as an EP, simply titled “The Electric Panther EP” available for download on their soundcloud.
The band had a high energy, no holds barred rock sound that would be propelled by the charisma of lead singer Aldo García Martínez and most of their songs burst at the seams with power chords, hot leads and charged up drumming.
Apparently, before the group faded into memory, they were able to professionally record (and thankfully archive their raw rock sound) two songs, “Still the Fire” and “Big Eyes Black Hair.” Click on the title below to hear it:
“The Electric Panther EP”
The following is a brief Q & A with Edmundo Valencia, guitarist / keyboardist for The Electric Panther::
epcb:: Why did you guys decide to release these recordings?
ev:: Some of us have been involved in the Juarez scene since the mid 90s, sharing practice spaces, setting up DIY shows, playing together in bands or side projects.
Many of our bands or friend’s bands from Juarez, either never recorded or never released whatever they recorded, it was different times.
So this release is mainly to document a couple of songs, from a dozen we wrote when the band was active and share it with the people who liked the band and supported us at shows. It’s a way to say thank you.
epcb:: What was the mentality of the group as this Ep was being made ?
ev:: First, personal satisfaction. Secondly, was to put out some rocking songs to represent Juarez rock n roll. In a way, it was also our response to all the madness going on here.
We recorded drums for five songs at Clap of Thunder with Gabe Gonzales as engineer. We chose the best two we liked. The rest of the instruments and vocals where recorded at Glasbox (Forum at the time) at Mattox’s practice space with the help of Miguel Valdez. Manuel Calderon mixed it a Dust Empire Studio.
epcb:: Is there a possibility that you guys will be coaxed out of retirement and do some reunion shows ?
ev:: It’s hard to tell right now, Chris (guitar) moved to another city in Mexico, Aldo (singer) is starting a band with former members of The Mckenzies and Red Fallen Tear. Mauricio and Daniel are involved in other projects. I’ve been playing with Mattox and working on my electronic project We Come In Waves, I recently released three EPs. That said, I think it would be cool to play live and record it.
