Dr. Magnus Hirschefeld’s Sideshow Extravanganza is the name of the Sun City’s first sideshow happening tonight at M’s Lips Lounge, located on 510 N. Stanton.
UTEP student and El Paso native, Cynthia Evans, is one of the creative minds organizing this unique mind blowing event.
Having done shows in the past such as “Bloodwork,” a Halloween party back in 2010 which included everything from performances to artwork, Evans is not new to organizing events of a more obscure nature.
Evans said she is super stoked about bringing this event to El Paso. She said this type of show is not seen too much in EP and the closest thing that’s been done here would probably be the belly and the fire dancers.
“I used to live in Austin for a little while and I went to a couple of sideshows there,” Evans said.
“I got a chance to see one in Dallas and they were sideshows from the East and West coast. I talked to some friends and we decided now is the time to do it.”
The line-up for tonight’s sideshow, which is FREE, is comprised of a burlesque dance, a glass eater, a block-head contest, human-pin cushion, a magician, a strong man and of course, a ringleader will take charge of the controlled chaos.
Evans said that she aimed for a combination of modern side show elements with more traditional ones.
“We wanted something with a good sense of humor,” she said.
The show will be separated into two parts with bands in between, and those bands are Epitaph Romance, The Ironsides and Los Peligrosos.
Evans also said that this show will be the third show she does at M’s Lips Lounge.
“The owners have always been so awesome,” Evans said.
“They’re very open-minded about different things and they trust me with the safety part involved with this type of show, since I have the experience having done fetish shows in the past and having been a piercer.”
